PARTNERS

African proverb

Sprout and STEM was established in the spirit of improving the Providence public school system and was organized by a founder who attended public high school and understands the disadvantages of these systems. After months of growing our infrastructure and recruiting staff, our initiative partnered with Classical High School in January of 2020. We are gratified to have gained the approval of Classical principal Scott Barr and science faculty director Aja Butler, for without their guidance and support our program would not be possible. We also extend our appreciation to Dr. Andrew Simmons, chairman of the Pre-Health Organization at the University of Rhode Island, for endorsing and advertising our program to the students throughout his department. We are pleased that mutual interests have collaborated in the spirit of positive reform. Sprout and STEM also appreciates the receptivity of the academic community at-large for its willingness to support our initiative.

STAFF

Sprout and STEM is composed of undergraduate and graduate students with formal education in the natural sciences. Our administrators and tutors consist of area university students and graduates representing an array of institutions and concentrations of study. Many of our tutors boast years of tutoring experience and enjoy sharing their understanding of natural science. Together, Sprout and STEM aims to improve the academic performance and preparedness of high school students struggling or interested in biology, chemistry, and physics. Of note, our tutors have undergone BCI background testing and an extensive application process, ensuring their qualification.

ABOUT US

Based in Providence, RI, Sprout and S.T.E.M. is a volunteer-based organization focused on providing the educationally disadvantaged with access to after-school supplementation, such as tutoring and mentoring.

SAS understands the correlation between social resources and education. We aim to provide public high school students with professional networking, academic enhancement, and insight into post-secondary education.

SAS is largely comprised of Providence-area university students who donate their time to tutor and mentor young high school scholars. We are actively seeking additional mentors, and especially encourage those who are interested to browse the remainder of our page!
